Call
for Volunteers, We’re Turning 50!
In February of 1958, the Columbus Ohio Chapter
of the Construction Specifications Institute was founded. The current
chapter members are planning a gala for 2008 to celebrate the chapters’
50th anniversary. We are looking for volunteers to be on the planning
committee. We will meet approximately once per month to select a
venue, write chapter history and search for past members. If you
are interested in helping, please contact Anne Roeper at 740-965-8228
or aroeper@accuride.com.
COLUMBUS CSI CHAPTER
INVITES YOU TO TAKE PART IN GIVING A HAND UP
Do a good deed, network
with fellow CSI members and be part of building a pilot LEED home!
The Columbus Chapter of the Construction Specifications
Institute is sponsoring a one-day event with the help of Worthington
Kilbourne’s HomeB.A.S.E. program. According to CSI Columbus
Chapter President Anne Marie Roeper, CSI, CCPR, one of her goals
this year is to increase awareness of CSI and strengthen ties with
the Columbus community. After hearing about a course called HomeB.A.S.E.,
offered at Worthington Kilbourne High School, she was immediately
interested in participating, recognizing it as a great program as
well as a ideal opportunity for her members to contribute.
HomeB.A.S.E, started by Worthington Kilbourne
High School teacher Roger Beck in 1996, allows students to help
the poor by constructing poverty housing and connecting this to
their English and Government classes. Every other day, seniors in
the Home B.A.S.E. program either travel to a Habitat for Humanity
site, one which they have raised money to help build, or stay on
campus and learn the techniques needed to build a house.
This fall, Kilbourne will be celebrating their
10th year. The 2006-07 home is a very energy efficient and environmentally
sustainable “green” home. Kilbourne was accepted into
the Leadership for Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) pilot
program for the United States. There are two pilot homes in Ohio
that are currently being built, one in Columbus and the other in
Cincinnati. The home is unique to America -- even the landscaping
plan is outstanding and will be one, if not the most environmentally
sustainable designs in Ohio for an urban lot. The house, when complete,
will even have solar shingles built into the roof that will be inter-woven
with regular shingles.
CSI Columbus will help Kilbourne give “a
hand up" and take part in a special build day at 258 No. 21st
Street on Saturday, Sept. 30 from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m.. All CSI members
and their families (children over the age of 14) are invited and
encouraged to participate. If you can’t stay for the whole
day, we encourage you to sign up for a morning or afternoon shift.
Sign up for a morning or afternoon shift or stay the whole day.
To sign up or for more information,
please contact Jenna Bellinski at 614.563.5846 or jbellinski@constructivecommunication.com.
Also, if your company is willing to volunteer food or donations
to purchase food for this event, please let Jenna know as CSI will
supply food for all workers that day.

Design
Columbus 2007
Mark your calendars – the date and location
has been set for Design Columbus 2007. The event is scheduled for
March 29, 2007 at the Columbus State Community College (CCSC) campus
-- a venue that is sure to surpass all locations of the past.
Design Columbus is an annual event that offers
members of the commercial design and construction community the
opportunity to view the latest products and technologies, as well
as learn from industry-leading speakers. It will provide multiple
opportunities for professionals to acquire continuing education
learning units on various subjects. The event also will include
more than 25 vendors, allowing participants an opportunity to quickly
see the construction industry’s most recent innovative products,
technologies and services.
According to Chick McBrien, Chairman of the
Design Columbus Committee, the 2007 event is especially exciting
because of the new location -- CCSC. Located in the heart of Columbus,
the facility is not only easily accessible but the venue allows
CSI to easily incorporate the recently launched CSI Student Chapter
in the event.
“It will be a fun and worthwhile afternoon,
complete with fellowship and learning,” says McBrien.
Those interested in having a booth at the
event should contact Chick McBrien at CharlesM@marvin.com or 614.306.3911.
More information about the speakers will be announced in the coming
months, but likely topics include BIM as well as a presentation
on proposal development and presenting your information to the client.
So save the date – March
29, 2007, 3-8 p.m. and come out to see the new location,
earn CEUs and meet fellow industry and CSI affiliates.
